If you’ve been reading this blog for any time at all, you may have picked up on the fact that I adore flowers!! In all their delicate and temporal beauty, one of the things that I love most about them is the their ability to become something so much more when arranged together. If I could choose a second occupation, it would most definitely be floral arranging! (Sidenote – This makes me a very difficult person to buy Valentine’s gifts for. Ask my husband… I insisted that I arrange my own flowers this year!)
When David surprised me for Christmas with a gift certificate to attend a floral arranging class at the adorable Dallas shop, Bows and Arrows, I was beside myself! I’ve been anxiously waiting to attend ever since and it finally happened last week… here are a few of the highlights.
Alicia and Adam Rico are the shop owners and principal floral designers at Bows and Arrows and they couldn’t be any cuter or sweeter! They welcomed our class into a unique studio space with glasses of champagne and strawberry cupcakes (best I’ve ever had!), then without much hesitation, whisked us off to work!
The class began with a demonstration on how to create a grid foundation for your arrangement using greenery. This was possibly the most enlightening part of the entire class!
Then Alicia took us around the room and introduced us to all our floral options. The wide selection of blooms was such an exciting playground for creativity!! I’ve never had the luxury of working with such a beautiful variety of flowers. Alicia chose a monochromatic collection of rosey pink blooms for her demo arrangement.
Next, we were left to our own devices (with generous guidance, of course) to create our dream arrangement! I was so impressed with the creativity of my fellow classmates. Seeing how everyone took the same information and used it differently was really fascinating!
Needless to say, I was in “Hilary Inspired” heaven!! By the end of the night, as I packed up my lush bouquet to bring home, I was unrescuably (yeah, that’s not a word) giddy… I could hardly contain my girlish giggles!! Creating something with your own hands and knowing that you’ve done it using the proper tools and information is such an fantastic feeling. I’ve arranged flowers for most of my life, but now I know so much more about what I’m doing and how to make my work even more excellent.
If you’re looking for a special gift for a loved one or just an evening out with the girls, I give Bows and Arrows a big thumbs up!! Thank you Alicia and Adam for your kindness, joy, and encouraging instruction. You are making a beautiful difference!

Now, you’re probably wondering why I haven’t included the final reveal of my arrangement yet (I slipped in a sneak peek above). Patience friends! I’ll be sharing that and more first thing Monday morning. (I didn’t want to overwhelm you with too many photographs today.) Can you wait ’til then?
In the meantime, stop by my new friend Molly’s blog, Smmidge… she interviewed me for a new series called “Blogger Profiles” in which she shares a deeper look into the world of our fellow bloggers. Thank you so much for inviting me, Molly!
Until Monday… Have a wonderful weekend!!
