What home means to us… this is a subject that’s been jostling around in my mind for the past few weeks. I’m incredibly blessed to have a wide variety of friends and family from all paths and stages of life and each with a unique perspective on home life. Being within and around these homes has motivated me think about the basic elements that we all desire and hope to experience in our homes – comfort, safety, happiness, and rejuvenation to name a few. But, interestingly enough, those “basic” things can be experienced in a multitude of ways! While one may find happiness in energy and bustling activity another may prefer peace and quietness instead. Comfort to one might be a physical state of ease and relaxation and to another a sense of satisfaction and confidence within one’s surroundings regardless of thread count or upholstery density. Curious…
To further complicate things, the question then becomes “what are your priorities at home and why?”. As someone who works within the interior design industry, these are the types of questions that are asked at the beginning of every project. What are you priorities and why? That simple question can be the difference between sunny yellow walls and heavy lined drapes.
So, now I turn the question on you. What experiences are most important to you in your home? How does your physical space reflect those values?
The photos above were snapped in my dining room one slow Saturday morning. Little details such as the old-fashioned tea cups, fresh flowers, and symmetrical arrangement are just a few snippets of insight into what I desire most in my home. Can you guess?

Hone is where the heart is! My heart is with my children, so when they are in my home…..I am happy. Although, I am not so concerned that everything is in it’s place. But I do like to sit by the wood burning stove in the winter, and in a nice cool room in the summer.

Home used to be a very neat and tidy place where I could relax with a good book. Everything was organized and in its place. Home is now a place that occasionally has a sink full of dirty dishes, a dust bunny hear or there, and a basket of laundry that needs to be folded. It’s also a place that, at the moment, has an almost 3 month old. It’s a place full of life and love that is teaching me my true priorities in life!
