How often does a girl get to shop using someone else’s money? In my case, not often. But this month, I did!!
I was invited to participate in a thrift makeover competition (or Upcycle Challenge, as they’re calling it) for the Great Big Texas Home Show at the Dallas Cowboys Stadium. The guidelines were simple. Use our $100 gift card (yes, ma’am!) and shop your favorite thrift stores for a diamond in the rough. Then purchase and transform! So, that’s exactly what I did.
Of course, my first stop was my trusty “Berry Good Buys” where I found the perfect piece, a wood framed baby changing table. Then, I shopped a few other thrift stores in town for glasses, serving dishes, an ice bucket (do you see where I’m going with this?), and a shaker. Finally, I finished off my $100 budget with a few magic-making supplies from Michaels.
Now, are you ready? Here’s the great big reveal…
It’s a bar table!!
Pretty darn cool, huh?
I have to admit, I was having a tad more fun than even I expected. A rickety piece of furniture, dirty glasses and dishes, a couple cans of black spray paint, a screw driver, patterned shelf liner, and strong dish detergent later… and you have a bright and shiny “new” piece of furniture!
But the adventure isn’t over yet. My piece is up against 5 others and I need your vote to help me get into the top 3!
Did I mention it’s also for a good cause? Each piece will be auctioned off at the No Tie Dinner and Dessert Party at Cowboys Stadium on April 6th and proceeds will benefit AIDS Services of Dallas in order to provide affordable, service-enriched housing for low-income men, women and children living with HIV/AIDS.
CAST YOUR VOTE HERE (i sure would appreciate it!!)
